The easiest way to become successful is to follow people that have gone ahead of you, let their success story be a ladder to your breakthrough.
So I took some time out to find some of the most important questions anyone would love to ask a photographer.
And this photographer here has something very interesting to say to us.
we will all be great and the good part is we will all know ourselves ._ Apostle Joshua Selman
Meet the remarkable photographer.
About me:
I am from Kogi state, Okehi LGA, I’m Ebira by tribe, I’m from a Christian family of six. I Studied Industrial design, specialized in Graphics. I’m a freelance photographer and a Masters student in the same department.
“The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.”
— Andy Warhol
What I love about photography
I get to tell you what to do and you obey without any complaint…lol
On a serious note, i like that I bring your imaginations to life, and document memorable moments, moments that would last for a long long time.
“Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera.”
— Yousuf Karsh
Exactly what is it you want to say with your photographs?
Every photographer has different goals and objective, for me I try to capture the best possible version of you I can, the version people don’t really see often, the person within you that’s hidden, I capture moments you can see and feel better.
How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?
Basically, I take time off to look through my pictures to identify some errors and little things I should correct and I try to remind myself when next I am shooting.
Also, i have quite a number of mentors, people I look up to, people who inspire me and every single morning and night I go through the IG and look through countless pictures of theirs, carefully analysing and picturing how they came up with such images. importantly, I have a few materials, videos and write ups that help me get better pictures.
Whose work has influenced you the most?
I would say Prince Meyson. He has inspired me a lot, not just by his works, but his personality, passion and eagerness to share and make the upcoming photographers better.
I have quite a number of his videos that guide me, videos I look back on at times when I am stuck or confused about an image or so.
What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking pictures?
Basic interaction with the subject or client and how to get them to co-operate with me even when they don’t know how to, want to or feel like it.
Muse?
God is a BIG factor for me, big source of inspiration and myself. I inspire myself . I know where i want to be, based on my set goals and targets so I just have to push myself even when I don’t feel like it, i still push myself so, yeah.
And of course my mentors…I get a whole lot of inspiration from them, I see what they put out and i feel challenged, the urge to do better.
My life is shaped by the urgent need to wander and observe, and my camera is my passport.
— Steve McCurry
What motivate you to continue taking pictures?
I would say customer satisfaction and delight. My work is never complete and the aim is not achieved if my client isn’t satisfied with my delivery.
I always say money is important but it’s not always the major objective, client satisfaction means a whole lot to me. I get this joy when I see the client beam with joy and satisfaction after every delivery.
Yes, that’s the thing. If I satisfy my client, he/she will most definitely refer me to a friend or two. People like to feel important, so I focus on you and that’s it. And i think your relationship with them matters a lot. It shouldn’t be all casual, try to have a little fun you know, laugh make them happy make them feel free. That alone would help you get really nice images.
- “If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff.”
— Jim Richardson
Any love-relationship and how has it improved your career as a photographer?
Yes, there is.
It’s helped me focus more.
And she’s a talented makeup artist so you see, she has an eye for good images and nice concepts. We’ve collaborated on a few projects. She has helped a lot really…
Advice to upcoming photographers.
Get a mentor or two, know the reason why you do what you do, get a working business model and use it… Very importantly work hard, learn as much as you can. What you know might help you. Try as much as possible to be consistent and diligent,
another thing; don’t be all about the money. You will definitely have to do some free jobs and in other places you wont get paid as you ought to but it’s all part of the story
When I say I want to photograph someone, what it really means is that I’d like to know them. Anyone I know I photograph.
— Annie Leibovitz
Avoid being intimidated by other better photographers. _Adinoyi
Believe in Yourself and trust your abilities, self-confidence is very vital. If at all you feel intimidated, turn that “intimidation” to “motivation”.
There are so many photographers so there will always be someone better than you out there. Just do you and you can decide to do a comparison and see how you can improve on your works.
“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.”
