Hello guys.
Today I have with me Rachael Doji, fondly called ’Chelle’. She’s a natural hair consultant and a devotee. Chelle will be answering all our natural hair questions, you can also drop your questions in the comment box after reading. Let’s meet Miss Rachael…
I’m Rachael ‘Chelle’ Doji, I’m a final year student of Mass Communication, Ahmadu Bello University. I’m from a family of two and I am from Taraba state.

Q: Thank you, Ma’am, how has your career influence your confidence?
Well, it has enhanced my communication and relational skills. I often meet people that are very conscious of strangers and I just have to try to engage them first. Mass communication has boosted my confidence and encouraged me to relate more with people of different age grades.
Q: Can you tell us about your natural hair journey so far?
Natural hair journey.
It started as a love-hate relationship, but as they say, knowledge and understanding is power. My natural hair journey has helped me understand the nature of my hair. It was stressful for me at first, but then I figured that the stress was all in my mind, I had done all I knew how to, but waiting for the result was really hard.
After shaving my hair, I just wanted to be Rapunzel in like a period of five months, LOL. I did not see results like that, although it was glaring I wanted to see growth… I thought growing my hair was going to be like covering a school syllabus and once I’m done I’m ready for the exams, then pass but alas! This was not the case.
Q: How long did it take you to grow your hair out?
I did not do a big chop, so it took about a year to get it all natural from the root to the tip.

Q: What is your take on haircare, what does it mean to you?
My take on hair care is that: the hair, just like every other part of the body should be well cared for. In fact, after your skin as in your body, your hair is next in line. I mean it!
Haircare means caring for yourself and your body holistically. For me, if you care for your hair you care for your body.
Q: What product do you use for your hair?
The word product is broad, but I use mostly organic products or things that are easy to find.
- Eggs
- Honey
- Onion
- Ginger
- Mayonnaise
- Rice
Q: Wow! All on the same hair, what are their functions?
Okay, Eggs and honey are good protein treatments for your hair, while rice water, onion, and ginger can be used to enhance the health and growth of the hair.

Q: What is the different types of hair texture and do they have similar hair care routines?
Hair textures can be dense, coarse, soft, thick e.t.c. Well, hair care routines do not only depend on your hair texture but porosity too.
Q: What is the big chop?
The big chop is to cut off your hair completely.
Q: How often should we wash our hair?
It depends on you really. Some can be weekly, bi-weekly, and some monthly, but a month should not pass by without you cleaning your hair.
Q: How often do you change your hairstyle and why?
As often as you want to, as long as your hair is neat.
Q: Can you tell a person’s personality from their hairstyle?
Personality is deep, but I can tell how neat, organized, and tidy they can be by their hair.

Q: Does your hair influence your love-relationship? I know guys that love girls with long hair and others prefer a lady with short hair, what do you have to say about this?
I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t like hair, it’s going to be hard cause I’m hairy. I mean all over and then I love owning my hair. I need someone who would just let me be myself, and a great part of me is my hair. I love it! So if a guy loves a lady with short hair, go for one who has or is willing to carry short hair.
Q: We talked about your hair saying a lot about you, should we consider styling and caring for our hair a lifestyle and how does it affect a person?
Yes… Styling your hair should be a lifestyle, overall hair care is part of body care and it is general hygiene.
Be clean from the crown of your hair (head) to the sole of your feet.
Q: What would you say to people who are just starting to grow their natural hair, is there a miracle means or shortcuts to fast hair growth? (Please safe a soul, LOL)
Actually, there is no miracle hair growth process or products out there. Patience is key!
Do your best, let your hair breathe and wait for the results. Where you need help, ask the right questions.

So let’s just stay patients, and in summary, do all the hair needful tips. That’s;
- Have a regimen
- Be faithful when it comes to moisturizing.
- Learn what works for your hair and stick to it.
- Do not be under unnecessary pressure to prove anything.
- Love your hair and be positive about it.
This is truly helpful. Thank you for sharing these amazing tips with us.
Thank you for having me Lima.
You are welcome, ma’am.

Love your hair
I like that..many people struggle with accepting their hair type/texture. After accepting your hair for what it is, taking care of it becomes easier
Definitely
