I’m Good day everyone. I am super excited to be collaborating on a writing project with Miss. Lima.
My name is Favour Olarotimi and I am the Lord’s Scribe.
I was talking with a friend of mine about our topic for today. It has been a pressing subject for me because I’m currently going through the process.
Our topic today is WAITING: The pain and reward of waiting on God.
The waiting process is a part of the Christian journey everyone must pass through. It is a very important point in growth.
We’ve been waiting since we were kids, for Christmas presents, lunch, dinner, gifts from uncles and aunties.
Then we grew and waited in anticipation for our results, (the wait for this no be here).
Those little moments prepared us for a journey of faith, a journey into the future. And every time we’ve had to wait for a gift we learned to build capacity (patient, peace, love, trust, hope and long-suffering).
It was easy to wait then because we were kids, and our thought were like that of a child, but now we are all grown up and its hits harder. Waiting is hard and painful, but there is always a reward for waiting on God.
Why do we have to wait on God?
I remember waking up every day and praying to God to heal me from asthma, every time I prayed I had more attacks, every time I tried to reach out to God it felt like he was moving farther from me. And that was the first time I heard about waiting on God, the first time I truly understood what it meant to wait on God!
We wait on God because we trust him, but God allows us to wait because he is building and preparing us.
The process of waiting is a period of learning, unlearning and relearning.
The place of waiting stretches us, heals us, develops us, builds our strength and resilience. Another important thing is that our faith is increased. The process of waiting helps to become the person God created us to be.
Waiting tests our Faith
Most times we go through hardships, multiple challenges at the same time. If you are like me you’ve probably asked “God why is this happening?”
God wants us to depend on him in the midst of our trials.
During this period we pray constantly and seek God daily.
God tests your faith to see if we will depend on Him in whatever situation we find our self.
What if he says no after waiting?
Most of us ask this. Well, what if he says yes? I rather here from God than move alone. Moses said, “I won’t go if you won’t won’t go with me” he wasn’t going to lead the Israelite until God was willing to go with him.
God’s No is never a rejection or a set back, when He says no He is protecting you from the fire you can’t see, God can not and will not love you into premature manifestation.
So, if he says no about a request or a prayer, he knows best for us. Don’t be afraid to wait on God because you are scared of His no. His no will bring you a thousand Yes!!!
One major key to waiting is patience. We must always have it at the back of our mind that we are waiting on God and not man. God’s ability is infinite, unlimited and with Him all things are possible.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful”. Hebrews 10: 23
Once God has said a thing. It must come to pass. His word never returns back to Him void.
No matter how long it takes we can be rest assured that He will fulfill all He had promised.
When we have this in mind, we can be able to wait without complaints, backsliding, or doubts.
We must also have healthy expectations. Man, not God is subject to time. God doesn’t work within the confines of 24 hours.
When things seem to be taking too long, we become frustrated because we are subject to time. God doesn’t tell us the time when He will bring forth our breakthroughs so that we can increase our faith and trust in Him.
So, if you are going through any difficult time, or a confused situation and you are waiting to hear from God, don’t give up. He will speak to you?
How do we hear from God? (channels of communication)
- The word of God
- The audible voice of God
- Body impulse
- Through his prophets and servant
- Through dreams and visions
The Word of God
According to 2 Timothy 3:16 all the Scriptures In the Bible is “God-breathed.”
I’m sure you’ve probably experienced it, you’ve come in contact with someone who had received, warning, encouragement, courage, etc. from
Reading the Bible.
God is always speaking to us through His word. He never violates His word. Whenever you hear anything contrary remember it is not the voice of God.
The audible voice of God
This was very common and spread across the Bible, right now we have only a handful of people who can and truly hear the voice of God. But we hear the Holy Spirit speak to us in our quietness, while studying the word or praying. That gentle voice that makes things clear!
Through our Conscience and Discernment
It is not new for you to feel a nudging that what you are about to do is wrong. God made us to be able to identify good from bad. He gives us the opportunity to pick the ”right” choice. He gives us the ability to be able to discern the true intent of a thing.
Through His prophets and servants
God uses preachers, teachers, prophets, etc. to speak to us. He doesn’t however limit it to them. He can speak through your spouse, children, parents, friends and even enemies.
God needs a human channel to manifest most times, so He expresses Himself through us to others and vice versa.
Colossians 3:15 makes us understand that God’s peace can rule in our hearts. The word rule means to be supreme, to reign, to guide, etc.
One of the ways to confirm a step you are taking is through peace. If you don’t have peace then it is not from or of the Lord.
Don’t make that journey, accept that proposal, leave your waiting period without having peace.
Through Body impulse
We all have personal and unique dealings with God. For some it’s a burning sensation on their hand, leg, a feeling in their head, a nudge or tough on their body.
Dreams, Visions and Trance
Some people need to rest to hear from God, and He reveals His secret and deep things to them after waiting through their dreams, or in the day time through visions and to some through trance.
“I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh . . . your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams” Acts 2:17
A vision is an open encounter. Something that you see with your eyes or in your mind. In this case, you are not sleeping or in a trance.
Dreams happen in our sleep. The event plays out like a real event. Sometimes I wake up shocked that my dream wasn’t real.
One of the major ways He speaks is through dreams and visions. He will insert the images into our minds during our conscious or unconscious moments.
Benefits of waiting on God
- Waiting on God renews our mind, spiritual, emotional, and physical well being.
- It enables us to have a razor-sharp focus on His purpose and direction for Our life.
- Waiting on God builds humility in us.
- We learn the ways and paths of God
- Waiting on God increases our faith, hope, and trust in God.
- Waiting on God stirs up the passion and desire, to be intimate with Him.
In conclusion, It’s left for us to choose whether we want to hold our breath in anticipation while we wait or release the breath, release the pain and let God. Just allow Him!
Refuse to wait in your own strength. Waiting in your strength doesn’t always end well.
Develop the spiritual discipline to wait till God says YES.
WHAT TO DO WHILE WE WAIT
- Spend quality time with God
